Time to sign up for the 2012 CSA season!

It’s springtime (we began seeding almost 2 months ago!) which means it’s time for us to welcome back our returning CSA members and send a warm invitation to those interested in becoming new members.

Who: You!

What: Become a Wassaic Community Farm CSA member!

Where: Two convenient Dutchess County locations – Friday pickups at the farm (just off Rt.22), or Saturday pickups at the Millerton Farmers Market. Members in the Bronx may also pick up at Padre Plaza Community Garden, and we are looking into a possible distribution site in Battery Park City in Manhattan.

When: Friday pickups begin June 15th; Saturday pickups begin June 16th. Our season runs through the end of October.

How: The season costs $550 (see below for low-income options) for 20 weeks of fresh, local, sustainably grown vegetables and herbs. See our website’s CSA page for more details, or email or call us or see us at one of our information sessions for more information. When you are ready, you’ll fill out our membership agreement, choose one of our distribution locations, and give us your payment. As easy as that!

Why: We look forward to growing healthy, nutritious food for you and your loved ones!

Our Share-A-Share Fund:

The farm team is committed to making local, high quality produce more affordable to everyone, and so there are a limited number of half-priced shares available for low-income members.

Would you like to donate $10, $50, or more to our Share-A-Share Fund? Let us know!

Would you like to know if you qualify for a low-income share? Contact us by email or phone. We are also able to accept payment by EBT, WIC and Health Bucks.

Farm Workday on Saturday, April 14th

We hope you’ve been enjoying whatever your favorite Spring pastimes are! On Friday we took a couple of hours to harvest wild ramps, which are a definite sign of April having arrived; and we learned that they make an excellent pesto!
At the farm, we’re knee deep in planting, both in the field and starting plants in the greenhouse: we’ve hand forked and direct-seeded beds for onions, scallions, arugula and lots of peas.  Our peas shoots have been challenged by the 20 degree weather and had to be heavily mulched, but the wood burning stove is up and working in the greenhouse which have helped protect (under Farmer Ben’s 24-hour vigilance!) the seedlings of  Parsley, Beets, Broccoli, Snow Queen Cauliflower, Stevia, Hot Peppers and Heirloom Tomatoes, among others. Our Community Supported Agriculture shares are still available.
We’re looking forward to a really abundant growing season, and for us at the farm, part of that aura of abundance is being surrounded by the friends, family and supporters of the farm. So, we are inviting you to the first Wassaic Community Farm Work Day of 2012! Farm lunch for participants the will prepared.
Who: Participants of all ages welcome!
What: Work Day at Wassaic Community Farm
Where: 17 Furnace Bank Road, Wassaic, NY
When: Saturday, April 14th @ 10am
Why: Help us spread hay mulch, weed our Lavender and herb beds, paint a farm stand sign and  plant lettuce in the greenhouse.
Please RSVP by email or phone to let us know if you’re coming!
